Sodium alpha-olefin sulfonate is an organic compound with the chemical formula CnH2n-1SO3Na. It is a colorless crystalline solid, soluble in water and organic solvents.
One of the main uses of sodium alpha-olefin sulfonate is as a surfactant for the preparation of detergents and cleaners. It has good properties of reducing surface tension, so it can effectively remove oil and stains. In addition, it is also used as an emulsifier, anti-foaming agent and antistatic agent.
The method for producing sodium A- olefin sulfonate can be obtained by reacting an olefin with sulfur dioxide. First, under appropriate conditions, an olefin and sulfur dioxide undergo an addition reaction to form an olefin sulfonic acid. The olefin sulfonic acid is then reacted with sodium hydroxide to produce sodium alpha-olefin sulfonate.
Regarding safety information, sodium alpha-olefin sulfonate is a corrosive substance and contact with skin and eyes should be avoided. Wear appropriate protective equipment such as gloves and goggles during use and handling. During storage and transportation, contact with acidic substances and oxidants should be avoided. If inhaled or ingested, seek medical attention immediately. Refer to the relevant safety data sheet for safe operation.
